Most of my
landscapes have been painted in the open air. In fact,
my holiday tradition is to go out painting--to the
mountains, to the water...I never know until I'm there.
Christmas day is
my favorite, then Thanksgiving. Few others share this
tradition, so traffic is 'like the good old days', and once
the right place is found, I can generally paint undisturbed.
The biggest challenge is finding someplace open for
breakfast.
I paint from an
intentionally simple palette. Sometimes nothing more
than red, blue, yellow, black and white. I also paint
with brushes whose touch I love--whose bristles are long
enough to dance on the canvas, and whose thickness is too
big for the canvas size and subject matter. It
keeps me focused on what really matters.
Viewing my own
landscapes is like reading a diary. Each one is a page
to be read over and over again.
